7th INTERNATIONAL OPEN CHESS TOURNAMENT «VARDARIS»
ANNOUNCEMENT
Organizers :
Chess Club “SACH” of Thessaloniki in co-organization with the Municipality of Thessaloniki, Greek Chess Federation and Union of Chess Clubs of Thessaloniki – Chalkidiki.

Mode - Groups :
Swiss System seven (7) rounds
Open Α Chess Players with Fide International Rating more than or equal to 1800
Open Β Chess Players with Fide International Rating less than or equal to 1799
Time Control :
Ninety (90) minutes for the whole game, plus thirty (30) seconds per move (from the first move).
Players arriving thirty (30’) minutes and more, after the scheduled start of a round, shall be forfeited.

Entry Fees :
OPEN Α: 45€
OPEN Β: 35€
There is an additional charge of 10€ in case the entry fee is paid after March 8.
For those who wish to participate in A group but belong to B group, the entry fee is 85€ (provided they have international ELO rating).
In case they don’t International ELO rating, the entry fee is 110€.
GM, IM, WGM, WIM : free on Entry Fee.
Special offer for families:
For 2 members of the same family, total discount 10%.
For 3 and more members of the same family, total discount 20%.
Payment methods:
The limit for entries is set at 120 players in total for the 2 groups.
The entry form does not guarantee the participation in the tournament.
The only guarantee is the payment of the entry fee on time, that should be completed at the latest by Friday, March 8, 2024, provided that the participations for the 2 groups have not exceeded the expected maximum number.
There is an additional charge of 10€ in case the entry fee is paid after March 8.
Priority is given to those who paid the entry fee on time and not to those who just send the registration form.

In case entries are available, the entry fee can also be paid at the playing venue and in particular on Thursday, March 14, 2024 from 09.30 - 13.00.
For chess players from abroad, the deadline for their participation is set on Thursday, March 14, at 14.00.
The pairings of the 1st round will be done on Thursday, March 14, and will be announced at 16.00 at chess-results.com.
The entry fee is returned to the player in case he/she is unable to participate and informs 2 days before the start of the tournament, March 12. Otherwise, it is credited in favor of the organization.
Prizes :
The prizes cannot be shared and are attributed to the winners, according to the final ranking.
In case, one player deserves more than one prize, he/she will only be rewarded with the higher valued one (in accordance to: money prize, trophy for final ranking, medal for final ranking).
The winners that are missing from the closing ceremony, lose their right to the prizes.
Tie-breaks System definitions :
- Sum of the scores of each of the opponents of a player (Buchholz)
- Sum of the scores of each of the opponents according to the result (Sonneborn-Berger)
- Sum of the Buchholz scores of the opponents
Εxceptions – Byes :
Byes with half a point are available until the 3rd round and without a point for the rest of the tournament. The exception should be asked not later than ten (10) minutes after the end of his/her last game.
Exception at 1st round can get anyone who has prepaid the entry fee.
Unjustified absence from any round will result in the expulsion from the tournament.
Any player unable to play a round shall notify the arbiters within ten (10) minutes after the end of his/her last game.
The time schedule cannot be changed for any reason.
Appeals - Appeals Committee :
Appeals shall be submitted, in written form to the Appeals Committee, no later than 10 minutes from the end of the playing session of each round. This Committee will be consisted of 3 members and 2 substitute ones, chosen among the participants or not. The Committee’s members related to the players involved in the complaint, will be excluded from the Committee and will be replaced by substitutes. The cost of the appeal is 100€ for A and B Group and can be submitted to the tournament director or the chief arbiter.
The fee is totally refunded if the appeal becomes accepted. If not, the fee goes in favor of the organization.
The Appeals Committee will be announced before the start of the 1st Round.
